‘Botanical Plastic’

Collaborative piece created with Inese (instagram: @ineses_art_works) and Ryan (instagram: @ryanbattersby_art). Collecting plastics for the duration of our project, and they were used towards the exterior of the ‘terrarium’. We used glue guns to secure the recycled plastics together. We also used compost and greenery for the inner layer. To hold the materials, we made a small plastic layer on the bottom to reduce clean up for the exhibition.

This project sparked from discussions with the 4 elements, which led us to spiral into many different outcomes. Among the many discussions with my partners in this collaboration, we decided on creating a ‘globe’ which later became a terrarium, reflecting the world’s overreliance on plastic. The inner layer of this sculpture is the reflection of those trying to fix the current climate crisis, and shows our levels of capability. This sculpture is also commonly interpreted as the world we live in and how we are moving towards extinction.

The main source of inspiration for this project came from our common interest in the Rising Moon Installation 2013.
